Jessica Stout

Starting Position: Inventory Control Assistant, JNI Headquarters
Current Position: Green Goods Supervisor / Location Manager, Johnson's Gardens, Cedarburg

Jessica grew up in rural Michigan, where from an early age she was deeply connected to green, growing things. A passion for plants runs in her family and Jessica attributes her green thumb to her beloved grandmother, who introduced her to gardening. One of Jess’ first green creations was a natural stone wall that she constructed, as a youngster, from native fieldstone and then planted densely with emerald green moss collected from the surrounding woodlands. One might say that wall was the foundation of her career as a professional in the Green Industry!

Jessica attended Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan where she earned a degree in Ornamental Horticulture and she has worked in the Nursery and Garden Center industry for over 15 years. She moved to Wisconsin in 2007 to take a position with Johnson's Nursery working in Inventory Control at our large Menomonee Falls wholesale nursery location. In 2014 she transferred to our retail Cedarburg store, Johnson’s Gardens, as the Green Goods Supervisor. Her enthusiasm, natural drive, excellent people skills and willingness to take on new challenges without blinking an eye quickly led to her promotion to Location Manager at Johnson’s Garden, which is the position she currently holds.

Here’s Jessica on her goal as the manager of Johnson’s Gardens: “My goal is to create a happy, positive environment where my employees and customers feel valued and appreciated. We pride ourselves on growing high quality plants and offering a complete line of gardening products in a clean, well-organized and welcoming space. I enjoy using my energy to motivate my team and I believe that our friendly, helpful staff genuinely shares my love and enthusiasm for the work we do here at Johnson’s Gardens. I LOVE PLANTS!!!”

What do you like most about working at Johnson's Gardens?
I love that I can express my creative side, whether it be in designing annual containers or in building displays in the store. I love plants and helping people. My co-workers are the best! They have a zest for life and plants along with a great sense of humor!

Why would you recommend someone work here?
I love that Johnson’s is a family business that is dedicated to producing quality plant material. We have a professional staff made up of experienced gardeners and educated horticulturists that, combined, have hundreds of years’ worth of plant knowledge. It’s great to be surrounded with all that plant brain power!

Personal Brief
When Jess is not at the Garden Center you will find her on an adventure hiking the Grafton Gorge or visiting a botanical garden. Her favorite is the Atlanta Botanical Garden in Georgia! She also loves to visit all her family and friends back in her home state of Michigan as much as possible. Another favorite spot to unwind is hanging out on the beach in Ludington, Michigan which is her spot to recharge and gives her the feeling of Zen.
