Starting Position: Marketing Coordinator
Current Position: Marketing, Web & Technologies
Rob received his B.A. in Communications from UW-Whitewater. He is a self-learner in WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite. Rob started working at Johnson's Nursery as a Marketing Coordinator in fall of 2013. That winter he spent his time wrapping his hands around the brand, marketing environment, and spending habits. Like all communications professionals, Rob loves analytics. Rob also loves internet advertising. He's driven by a genuine interest in improving office staff tools/technologies, developing the staff community, and improving the customer experience.
Rob often sits in his own world, behind a computer most of his days. Not too many people know who he is and will never see/meet him. Much of the staff often wonder what exactly he does... but if you've ever used the JNI website, received our marketing emails, or have seen anything with our logo on it - that's Rob. He's one of only a handful of staff at Johnson's Nursery with little plant knowledge.
What do you like most about working at Johnson's Nursery?
"1. The staff are phenomenal. You'd be hard-pressed to find a more dedicated team elsewhere. We don't "silo" our positions - we all lend a hand when and where it's needed without losing sight of our core responsibilities. This is especially important as the labor force and wages continue to challenge this industry. On busy inventory days I may help unload plants - a welcomed break from the office. This team's ability to strategize and adapt to evolving conditions is remarkable. 2. It's an interesting front row seat watching consumer demand affect a living thing (plants).
Why would you recommend someone work here?
"Let's get one thing straight. You're not going to be a millionaire in this industry. Green industry professionals (even office folk like myself) do it for the love of the game - the seasonal highs and lows, the smiles and tears of our colleagues, and the life and death of a living plant system. Every individual, whether you're a laborer or the owner, has the ability to affect the growth and direction of this strong community. We don't break, we #flex."
When not working, Rob spends time with his wife (Katie) and three pets (1 dog "Turk", 2 cats "Buffy & Spike"). Rob also manages a small side gig building WordPress websites for businesses. Rob also loves playing video games - when he can find the time.
